... i njegov brat Pierre

Pierre Prévert nikada nije pravio filmove “kao ostali”.
To je očigledno zato što on to tako voli, kao i zbog
toga što mu producenti nisu nikada visili na telefonu.
Tako misli – dobro informisani - njegov brat Jacques,
i ja nemam utisak da je taj porodični album novog
žanra mogao promijeniti ovakav stav (ni producenti,
vjerovatno).

UIZLOŽBE, ...m, nije to film, zar ne, radi se o televiziji.
Duga emisija, serija susreta koji se vraćaju u prošlost.
Sadašnjost - prošlost: Jacques pred kamerom koju
drži Pierre, pa Pierre pred kamerom koju drži Jacques.
Skoro kao Jacquépierre...

U kadru je i portretist, najčešće nisu sami u kadru.
Dolaze prijatelji jedni za drugima, da se sretnu sa
svojim uspomenama. Bez sumnje: oni se ne mijenjaju,
isti su (isti prijatelji, iste uspomene). I svi se tretiraju na
isti način, samo gledalac može razlikovati vedetu od
nekog anonimnog. Preverovi svim svojim prijateljima
daju centralno mjesto: Gabin i Carné opušteni kao da
ih nikada nisu vidjeli, Brunius otkrivenog lica, Vian,
odsutni komšija – nestao dvije godine kasnije - čiji
fantom pokušava opet s njima dijeliti istu terasu.

Pa oni koji su stradali u ratu, ili su se ubili kao Batcheff,
koga Pierre neće nikada zaboraviti.
Kada su Preverovi zajedno pravili filmove bilo je to
slično krijumčarenju.. I u jednoj sedmici željeni rezultat
je bio tu... Imali su samo četiri dana da naprave ovu
seriju! To ih nije spriječilo da naprave šta žele.
Pierre gleda televizijske gledaoce pravo u oči a
njegov brat se šali i viče iz groba: “Živ sam!“…boje
božanstvenih kolaža ....

Paul Grimault mi reče jednog
dana: “Jacques, bilo je to sunce!“ I ja vas uvjeravam da
je prepoznao jedan tračak sunca. Moj brat Jacques je emisija namijenjena za televiziju, proizvedena 1961.
godine od strane Filmske kraljevske biblioteke Belgije
(inicijator projekta na čelu sa njenim direktorom
Jacques Ledeux-om) i RTBF (belgijska televizija).

U
seriji filmovanih razgovora u toku četiri dana (na
16 mm crno - bijeloj traci) u Jacques-ovom stanu u
Parizu, Pierre priča o svom bratu. Okruženi nekim od
svojih “prijatelja sa filma“ ili jako dobrih prijatelja, dva
brata govore o Nekim stvarima i ostalim …, evociraju
razne Jacquesove aktivnosti. Razgovor se prekida
sekvencama iz filmova o kojima razgovaraju.
Ta emisija je bila prikazana u oktobru/novembru
1961. godine na belgijskoj televiziji. U aprilu 1990.
godine, Pierre-André Boutang ju je prikazao u emisiji
“Océaniques“ (FR3) (ponovo prikazana u novembru
1991).

Nažalost, ovo prikazivanje je došlo suviše kasno da bi
Pierre i Jacques mogli vidjeti svoj film na francuskoj
televiziji...

Više od četrdeset godina nakon prikazivanja, Moj
brat Jacques se sada može vidjeti u novoj montaži. S
obzirom da su dijelovi pretrpjeli veće izmjene tona ili
slike, morali su biti izrezani. I da smo mogli tretirati i
popraviti kvalitet izvjesnih drugih elemenata, opet bi
ostale tehničke nesavršenosti kojih smo mi svjesni, ali
smo procijenili da dokumentu treba dati prvenstvo.
Nadamo se da gledaoci dijele ovo mišljenje.
Naracija ide u korist (najčešće) hronološkog reda
događaja. Mnoge sekvence su prikazane drugačije
u odnosu na 1961. godinu, a neke su dodate. Da
li smo mogli ispuniti želju Pierra Preverta da smo
ubacili Ribolov u Balenu, film koji je napravio Lou
Tchimoukow 1943. godine. Više smo voljeli ubaciti
jedan kadar iz Nagrada i profit pokazujući braću kako
se predstavljaju, i jednu sekvencu iz Pariz ljepotan,
filma u boji…

Jacquesovi kolaži, slike Else Henriquez, makete
Alexandra Traunera, filmovi Paula Grimaulta, slike
Tanguyija, Miróa, Légera… crno - bijele u prvoj montaži,
ovdje su ponovo pronašle svoje prvobitne boje.
Ova edicija DVD-a Moj brat Jacques je omaž dvojici
braće, onome što je Pierre Prévert htio pokazati
u svom filmu: duboku naklonost između braće,
veliku obazrivost koja ih je ujedinjavala kao i svu
tu atmosferu prijateljstva i saučesništva koja ih je
okruživala.

Bez podrške i naklonosti Eugenije, Jacquesove
djevojčice, ovaj DVD ne bi mogao biti realizovan.
Kratke bilješke koje smo dodali u glavni dio Moj brat
Jacques (uz pomoć André Heinchrcha i Jean-Pierre Pagliana) u svrhu su preciziranja nekih događaja koji
se samo u aluzijama evociraju u improvizovanim
razgovorima učesnika. Isto tako, željeli smo malo više
upoznati nekoliko prijatelja koji su bili veoma bliski
braći Prevert, a koji se ne pojavljuju u filmu.

Pierre Prevert has never made films “like others“.
It is obviously because he likes it and because the
producers have never encumbered his telephone
line. It was the opinion of his brother Jacques and
I really do not have impression that this new genre
family album could change this point of view (neither
producers, most probably).

Anyway, it’s not about film, it’s about television. A
long television broadcast, a series of rencontres that
are as much looking back on the past. Present-past:
Jacques in front of Pierre’s camera and Pierre in front
of Jacques’s camera vice versa...

The portraitist is also the part of the programme and
they are never alone in it. Their friends are coming
one by one to confront with their memories. There
is no doubt: they are the same (same friends, same
memories). All these friends are treated in the same
manner, only the audience may distinguish the
vedette from the unrecognized. The Prevers highlight
all their friends: Gabin and Carné relaxed as if they
never saw them, Brunius with the uncovered face
as if…, Vian, absent neighbour- will disappear two
years afterwards – whose phantom extricates himself
to come once again to share the same terrace. And
those who died in war or killed themselves like
Batcheff. Pierre will never forget him.

When the Prevers were making films together it was
just like smuggling. But within one week it was in the
bag. They had only four days to make this television
broadcast! It did not prevent them to take their time-
Pierre looks his audience directly into their eyes and his
brother teases him from beyond the grave:“ I am alive!“

Of course they are alive, they have even retaken the colours – colours from Paris la Belle, from the superb
collages... Paul Grimault told me yesterday: “Jacques,
it was the sun!“ And I can assure you that he has
recognised a sunbeam.

My brother Jacques is a television broadcast intended
for television, made in 1961 by the Royal Film Library
of Belgium (initiator of this project in person of
its director Jacques Ledoux) and RTBF (Belgium
television). In a series of interviews filmed within
four days (16 mm black and white) in Jacques’
apartment, City Véron in Paris, Pierre talks about his
brother. Surrounded by some of their friends from the
world of film or their best friends, two brothers talk
about Choses et Autres ... recalling various activities
of Jacques. The conversations are interrupted by
extracts from the films they allude to.

This broadcast was broadcast in October/November
1961 by the Television of Belgium. In April 1990,
Pierre-André Boutang presented it in “Océaniques“
(FR3) (presented again in November 1991).
Unfortunately, this broadcast came too late for Pierre
and Jacques could see it on the French televisions...
More than forty years after the first broadcasting, My
brother Jacques is presented here in a new montage.
Since some changes of the sound and the picture
have been made, some passages had to be moved
aside. If we could have improved the quality of some
other elements, anyway, the technical imperfections
would have remained. We are well-aware of that, but
we have estimated that the document has a priority.
We hope that our audience will share this point of
view with us.

The narration tends to privilege (most often) the
chronological order of the events. Most sequences
are presented differently compared to those from
1961. Some others were added also. In such a manner
we could perhaps grant the wish of Pierre Prevert
inserting La Peche a la Baleine, a film realised by Lou
Tchimoukow in 1934. We liked better to insert a plan
from Prix et Profits, showing brothers while presenting
themselves, as well as one extract from Paris la Belle,
film in colours...

Collages made by Jacques, pictures of Elsa Henriquez,
maquettes of Alexandre Trauner, films of Paul
Grimault, paintings of Tanguy, Miró, Léger, in black
and white in the first montage, are in their original
colours here.

This DVD edition of My brother Jacques is the tribute
to two brothers, to that what Pierre Prevert wanted
to be seen in his film: deep affection between two brothers, deep connivance bringing them together
as well as all this atmosphere of friendship and
connivance surrounding them.
Without the support of Eugénie, Jacques’ little girl,
this DVD could not be realised.

The notes succinct that we added into the leading
idea of My brother Jacques (with the help of André
Heinchrcha and Jean-Pierre Pagliano) are intended to
specify a number of events that were not mentioned
in the improvised conversations of the participants. We
also wanted to get to know better some close friends
of brothers Préverts who did not appear in the film.
